Have a quick question for those who have done this before. How many and what size plexiglass drill bits do I need for my RV-8 kit? I am working on the wings, installing the Duckworks landing lights, and wanted to know what size drill bits I need. Would like to know what size is needed for doing the canopy as well. That way I can just put and order in and get them all at once. Thanks.

go the eaa web site, they show you how to convert a normal drill bit to cut plastic. you actually take the drill bit and grind off the point on the outer edge where it starts on the bit. On actually had trouble drilling my rear spar on the final hole size and had a problem of grab. I thought of this for the aswer and took the drill bit and used a fine file on the edge. Made all the difference in the world, made the cut without the grab.

I used 1/8" and 5/32" plexi bits to do my canopy. Avery carries them, but you can also find them locally in most plastics shops.

Do you have a link that I can follow on the EAA wesite? I looked around that and could not find the article you were talking about.

What is a "plastics shop"? Is that a place that does boat repair? My phone book does not list anything under that heading...

No, not boat repair. These are shops that sell plastic stock material, adhesives, and tools, and often also offer custom fabrication services as well. Their typical applications might be custom containers, display cases, etc.

Two that I've used are:

Ridout Plastics in San Diego: http://www.ridoutplastics.com/

and

TAP Plastics in the SF Bay Area: http://www.tapplastics.com/

I don't know where you're located, but I'll bet if you search "plastics, your area code" on Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/), you'll probably find something similar.
