Ballpark, how many times can you put a screw into a platenut and take it out again, before the interity of the platenut is compromized? Is it on the order of a few times, or a few hundred times?

As long as they hold the screw reasonably tight (twisting tightness), I see no limit.

I've been removing my cowling at every oil change for 14 years. There are 24 plate nuts. I've had to replace 2 because of galling. None have become loose.

Mel,

How do you like the platenuts compared to camlocs? Would be a lot cheaper to go platenuts........

Thanks,

I used platenuts, #6 CS torx screws and tinnerman washers for the top curved part of the cowl attach and it works great. It takes about 1 minute to remove the screws and a couple minutes to put them in using an electric drill.

It works great and I'd do it again.

Jim,
I like the plate nuts just fine. Much cheaper and easier to install. Camlocks are more convenient.
