Ok here is the background:
I have a Plane Power Alt with built in Regulator. I do not have a split master. Only Master switch.
When I have the Master on and I'm messing with radios and such in the plane I noticed that the aluminum pulley on the alternator gets pretty warm.
Why is this? And is it normal?
To avoid this can I just pull the 5amp alt field breaker while working with the avionics and master on?

My plane power alternator is pulling 5-6 amps with the engine off. It is doing everything it can to maintain the bus voltage.

I'll answer this

I called Plane Power and got the answer:.
It is normal for the pully to get warm while having the master on if you dont have a split switch. According to Plane power it wont hurt the altnernator and if you dont want to to get warm you can pull the 5 amp field sense breaker while working on your avionics.
