The -8 I've been flying has the standard Vans pitot tube setup (AN bulkhead fitting and bent -4 tube). I'm upgrading to a heated pitot tube and mast and happened to note with horror that the current tube's bulkhead fitting is mounted in a hole drilled right through the lower spar cap.

Someone please tell me this is per the blueprints! :eek:
 
That is excellent news! I can't quite get my head around it, but if Van's stress guys say its good, then so be it.

I'm not a structural expert in any sense of the word, but I have read that the majority of the strength of a bent piece of metal is in the radius of the bend.
