I wonder how this happens? Hole on the top of the tail pipe, not where the breather exits... We've always said that we were trying our best to wear it out. We seem to be succeeding. The prop is off for some TLC this week too.

Looks like typical thermal erosion failure to me. Pretty typical for the stainless alloy used for light aircraft exhaust. How many hours on the exhaust?
 
Your exhaust is hitting the bottom of the fuselage. You might want to work the pipe hangers.

Nope. nothing more than a bit of cowl rubbing further up.

1650hrs. Yeah, it is just a spot failure in the middle of the pipe.
 
Maybe that is where air doesn't blow on it go keep it cool (in the trailing stall zone)????
 
Wow! I'll take a closer look at mine thanks for heads up Scott. My engine is well over 2K.
