I finally got around to making that flight to 17,950 ft. As you can see by the flight timer (which had 3 minutes on it before take off) it took us all of 24 minutes to make the climb. We departed DVT, elevation 1460 ft. I had to level out after take off to avoid class B airspace and then we decided to head NE instead of NW due to cloud cover so I was not very attentive to the climb for a few minutes while we found a new waypoint and loaded it into the EFIS. I would think I could have made the climb in 22 minutes. I was still climbing at 500 fpm as we approched 17,900.
My copilot is Doug Peterson.
Here are a few details, some of which you can see on the EFIS.
RV-9, 0-320, 160hp, C/S Hartzell, EW: 1051 lbs. Take off weight: 1670 lbs.
@ 17,900 ft.: Indicated A/S 108kts, True A/S 146kts, Ground Speed 171kts. FF 6.4 gph
(Fuel quantity is really 28gals. I forgot to reset the totalizer, oops)
Just have'n fun!!!
