My question is with respect to the "new" design of the nose wheel pant attachment (RV-6A/7A/8A/9A DWG C1 revision R3 dated 12/27/2004).

It appears that the U-713C brackets are designed such that they can remain permanently attached to the wheel pant, and the wheel pant with the brackets as one assembly can be removed and reinstalled on the fork by simply removing the two big Allen cap screws and sliding the brackets over the axle bolt. Neat design, and it seems to work great (much better than leaving the brackets on the fork and flexing/forcing the pant to slide over the brackets).

So my question is this: It seems to me that a permanent installation of the brackets to the pant would be appropriate (say, rivets + epoxy). But the drawing shows that these brackets attach to the wheel pant with screws and nutplates. Is there a good reason why?

Thanks,
