http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/cm/tape.html wet out peel-ply with resin to produce smooth transition from fiberglassed part to non-glassed part. Bydoing this, no rough or sharp edges to sand.

And USUALLY, after applying that last glass TOP ply and then the peel ply over it, there is more than enough epoxy in the glass plys under the peel ply. You should not have to add more epoxy to the peel ply. The peel ply will soak up the excess. Just smooth the peel ply down using a flexible plastic scraper and remove any epoxy on top that has soaked thru.

After it sets/drys (the next day), peel the peel ply away and you will have a textured surface so the next coat of filler or epoxy has something to grip to.

Another glass tip,

If you are going to order from Spruce get a yard of the 1.7 oz glass fabric to use for the final layer as well. And rather than their "peel ply" you can use dacron fabric which is cheaper and smoother (part number 09-00100) Lay up all your structural plies nice and wet then add a ply of 1.7 oz glass which feels like silk then a final layer of peel ply cut in small pieces so it conforms well. The 1.7 oz glass makes a very smooth finish and conforms to curves well. Of course after it cures peel off the peel ply You will like the finish it leaves which takes very little prep work before painting.
Best of luck.
