Trivia - where did I recycle this handle?

When I built my 8 I wanted to have a parking brake, my friend told me he didn't have one and in 8 years can't remember when he needed it! Of course, he doesn't have a good memory and I don't listen anyway....so I added a parking brake and in the 2 years I have flown it I used it once :D

Since I wanted to use a "handle" I felt the weight may engage the brake on my "non-greaser" landings. So I beat my head against the wall trying to figure out how to add the handle to the parking brake valve and engage it "OFF" and "ON".

Yup....had to enlist another friend and pay the usual 2 beer fee ;)

A little slice in the handle and securing with a bolt.

Added an aluminum spacer to hold/mount the "ball bearing" catches

This picture shows the parking brake "OFF" and you can see the bottom ball bearing to lock it "ON".

My parking brake consists of $4 worth of 1/2" pvc and fittings with a splash of orange paint and some rope. I use it every day

I installed a parking brake (with a cable with a thumb push release. So the position, on or off, can't be moved without being pushed in.)
I installed the parking brake because I didn't want to be one of those planes that roll up to the pump on a windy day and have to scramble
out of the cockpit to place a pair of 1/2" PVC "U"s and with a splash of orange paint on them and some rope dangling from one end. :D
I, like many only plan to use the park brake to hold the plane from rolling while I chock up.

The key to this post is "and I don't listen anyway....
And, I'm sure John's wife would back me on this one! ;-)
