When taping trim, checkers etc. , I am always concerned by the need to scotch brite the base coat paint for adhesion. The tape may be damaged, debris may adhere to the edge of the adhesive film and there may be small area near the tape that is not scuffed.

Any comment or advice appreciated:eek:

What not to do.

I faced the same problem and decided to scuff all of the base paint before applying squares for a checkerboard scheme on the rudder. Later I would apply clear coat and all would be well, or so I thought.....
Turned out that the scuffing also provided an extremely good surface for the vinyl to adhere to and when I tried to remove the squares after painting the vinyl separated from the adhesive. Hours of careful clean up finally got me back on track.
I too would like to hear how checkerboard is done properly,
for next time.
