Would someone please enlighten me as to the reason for one full width layer of electrical tape followed by an additional 1/32" wide strip of tape prior to sealing the wing tip extension. Would one piece of tape provide the same results?

Sealing wingtip light fairing

I think the idea is to provide protection to the fiberglass fairing so when you use your little popcycle stick tool to finish the sealant you will get a clean line on both the wing and the fairing.

It looks like my tape on the fiberglass is a little wider than 1/32". Note that if you use a wider strip it will be in the way of riveting the fairing on.
