Looking to make my first trip flying to osh outta the south FL area.

Anyone have some must stops for restaurants, cheap fuel, national park or something on the way up or back?

First stop will be in Tennessee or Kentucky for fuel.

Anything you wish you had done differently or brought along when you went?
 
We always stop for fuel in Ellington (LUG) just South of Nashville. Mainly because it's roughly halfway to Osh from our home base in Tampa so right in our wheelhouse of 3 to 3-1/2 hour legs and it usually has the lowest or near the lowest fuel price in the immediate area. Otherwise, it's nothing special. Being that it is a 7-hr trip my desire is to get there as quick as possible with minimal time on ground so we just gas, pee, and go. We eat snacks in the air. Plus we go IFR so I have an arrival slot reservation time I have to meet at Osh so minimizing time on ground helps with assuring we nail the arrival.

10 4, bombing up with my cousin chasing his lance, he’s not wanting to get there till after the airport reopens after 630 on thurs
 
DeKalb, IL, KDKB, was a good last stop before Oshkosh when I lived in Florida. They always had hot dogs on the grill, chips, and coolers full of icy drinks. It's about 35 miles west of Chicago and about 2 hours south of KOSH.

Do be cautious here. Lots of local traffic and they are all pretty much 28-2900 and 1 mile off the shore line. Many spend far too much time looking where they shouldn't. Outside of OSH, traffic is mostly equal in both directions with high closure rates. I have gotten much closer to other traffic here more than anywhere else in my flying. Flying around to the west has far more traffic, but it is well spread out and not concentrated on one path.

The newish midway C ring may have changed things and pushed traffic lower. Whenever I take sight seeing traffic, I fly 2800 and get a clearance into the Charlie. DO NOT like flying 1200' over insanely congested ground.
