About to install a oil temp probe in the front right port. My question is should I be using any type of sealant or any other compounds on the threads at all?

Tapered pipe threads are intrinsically NOT leak proof. The threads allow the fluid to follow the thread unless some kind of sealant is used for assembly.
the Brits came up with BSP threads (British Straight Pipe), which incorporates a positive seal. But you've got what you've got!
