Just changed the oil and received a oil analysis back. The results show high levels of Silicon (21ppm). 213 TT and 25 hours since last change. Using Shell Aero-4 oil and only auto fuel.
Have only flown 25 hour this passed year due to extended travel.

Does anyone know what would cause this high reading?

Possible dirty air filter, induction leak bypassing your air filter, or you may have contaminated your oil sample. Dirty air filters causing the high silcone have been my experience.

Did you happen to use DC4 compound on your oil filter seal? Excess amounts of compound could also lead to silicon deposits in the oil.

what do the oil guys say?

your analysis co. may have some good feedback if asked...otherwise they just print and process your results.

Mine showed silicA........which they say is sand/dirt etc.... to be expected in summer, I suppose a high number could mean inlet dirty air leak? ( not well filtered?)

siliCON is another animal, and so the likely sources as noted by others.

I could be way off on this, but I think that a low rate of hours per month contributes to high silicon.
