I've read references here that the silicon based RTV sealer isn't ideal for our aluminum planes. I'm wondering if anyone has a source for a non-silicon RTV sealer? I've look at spruce and wicks without any luck.

I'm currently working on my rudder for the 7, and wanted to get some sealer in there between the stiffeners to help prevent cracking of the skin.

Thanks!

permatex ultra series

permatex rep was here last week. says the ones with the rancid odor (vinegar) are the corrosive ones . said all the ultra series ones were safe and it is also noted on the container as safe for alu.

Any silicone-based product on any material will cause problems if it is to be painted over; paint and silicone don't play well together. The silicone itself is not reactive with aluminum.

As William said, sealants that smell like vinegar are mildly corrosive on aluminum.
