Mornin' all,
I checked out Coss Aviation after reading the post by Rainier Lamers of Enigma fame. Check this out, a quote from their site:

"Quickbuild Plus - Complete your own Aircraft

The quickbuild plus is a new concept available to South Africa through Robin Coss Aviation. As we don't have the 51% rule here that the FAA does, we will, this year, be making available our quickbuild plus kit. This will consist of the complete airframe, empennage and wings with finishing kit, built up to a stage where it is a rolling chassis.

Basic description: wings, ailerons, wingtips complete and rigged to fuselage; empennage complete and rigged to fuselage; fuselage complete, including brake lines, rudder pedals, controls; canopy and windshield complete; aircraft primed with strontium chromate primer. Price will include the above and the associated components from Van's Aircraft inclusive of freight and handling, basically a one-stop package purchased FOB, from Robin Coss Aviation, Cape Town.

The customer will be responsible for the firewall forward installation, instrument panel, wiring and painting, composite components and final assembly of aircraft. This will also save the client from having to buy costly, specialised, sheetmetal tool kits. Only the basic tools needed for maintenance will be needed to finish the aircraft.

Specifications subject to change."

Hmmmm.....wonder what the problems of importing one of these airplanes would be?

You could probably import it just fine. Perhaps getting a registration would be a sticking point. It could be a nice gate keeper at some private airport.

Hmmm...

Seams like if you completed and registered it in SA, then you could import it to the US.

What are the regs about importing foreign aircraft?
