Today the FAA issued an AD on United Instruments 5934 series altimeters that were manufactured between January 2015 and February 2016 and installed in airplanes and helicopters. It is possible that some RVs may use this altimeter that have been recently built or altimeter replaced.

Since the AD applies to the altimeter, we must comply and will not be able to say we do not need to because we are an Experimental aircraft. The AD calls out "installed in airplanes..." and that makes it apply to us flying Experimental Airplanes.

I would not expect that there are many RVs that this AD will apply to. My United Instruments Altimeter is over 20-years old and passed every pitot / static and transponder test the aircraft has ever had. (most likely 10 over the past 19-years.) United Instruments makes high quality products and they have a premium price. Next test is due on my aircraft before end of November 2017.
