If you have a light colour tip, the dirt that collects under the lens, sandwiched between the lens and fibreglas is pretty, well, .....not pretty!
Unless you've sealed the lens, which can lead to fogging, you're stuck looking at the dirt.
Here's one way to 'mask' the lens.
If you are keen to paint, the same thing can be done inside, or outside the lens. The plastic does cause a slight colour shift if colour is applied to the inside.
I went to my local sign shop, ( work!) and found some vinyl that nearly matched the colour of the paint.
Paste this into your browser window

and it should take you to a slideshow with captions that explains the rest, or drop me a line and I'll elaborate.
( hey what the heck else are you gonna do when it's -20!??!!)
