Howdy,

Looking for a Cleveland wheel expert to help me out here. I've gotten my hands on a set of Cleveland 40-28D 6.00X6 wheels for my Breezy project. They are old and need some TLC but the price was extremely attractive. There were no brakes included. I have a chance to get my hands on some 30-63A brakes, which are for another model 6.00X6 Cleveland wheel, the more common 40-97As.

As best as I can tell, the essential difference between the 30-63As and the 30-19As (which match the 40-28D wheels, per the Cleveland catalog) is that the 30-19As use a slightly (.050 or so) thicker brake disk. Is that the only difference, and can the 30-63As be used with the 40-28D wheels? I'm building the main gear now so I can modify the axle as needed. My biggest concern is the thicker brake disc fitting inside the older wheel, but there may be other issues I don't know about.

The 40-28Ds were used on pre-1970 7AC Champs as well as Cherokees and some Cessnas.

There has been some discussion threads over the past couple of years about modifying 2 seat RVs for larger wheels, so this may prove useful to someone in the future. (There- it's RV related!)
