I purchased a new O360-A1A engine built using Lycoming factory parts some time ago and am finally getting around to installing it. The front outboard stud for mounting the starter was not installed by the engine builder. What stud part number is used for this purpose or is there a reason why the stud was not installed?

I think that is normal. A bolt should be used in that location. You should have received a bolt and lock washer or an bolt with a hole in the head for safety wire with the starter.

Bill is correct. You are to use a bolt there. A stud will not work and allow the nut to be installed onto that stud, once the starter is on the crankcase.
Bolt is 5/16-18 x1-5/32 long Lycoming P/N STD2156
Good Luck,

Bill & Mahlon,
Thanks for setting me straight on my starter mounting question. I searched the internet high and low and could not find the details anywhere.
