Planning some summer one nighters.

Anyone have some suggestions for fun trips. Rule is there needs to be a nice little airport that is ga friendly, decent hotel in the 80 to 120 range and food nearby and ideally water too. A combo of these makes for a great mini trip.

Michigan city and stay at blue chip casino
Cadillac
Roscommon houghton lake
Campbell Indian river
Charlevoix
Frankfort

Any pireps or better suggestions?

Destinations in michigan

Another destination that you will like that I think is the best in Michigan is Traverse City. Nice airport (Cherry Capital), great downtown for shopping, great restaurants, and incredible water and scenery along with great motels. I'm biased as I live in TC but its a great place. If you stop, give me a call. I'd love to meet you.

My boss always likes to fly up to Beaver Island north of Traverse City. I haven't been there yet, but as soon as we have something to fly, it's on top of the list. :D

which airport

Hi Katie - Can you ask which Beaver Island airport to they fly into? We'd like to visit as well. Thanks!

Sure Pete, I'll ask Greg when he gets here. I'm guessing Welke, because it's closer to Main Street. They like to bring their bikes along and ride into town.

A couple of my favorites were Harbor Springs (MGN) and Holand's Park Township airport (HLM). Park Township is within walking distance to the Holand State Park.

Grand Haven is fun too. Plus there's also an active EAA chapter that meets the first Friday night of the month at the Grand Haven airport.

Another vote for TC ... we were there just last weekend. BUsy place on holiday weekends, but there's TONS to do. They have a myriad of lodging choices; best approach :) is to try hotels.com or similar. And I must mention again that Harbour Air at TVC has to be the best FBO ever. Can't imagine being treated better by nicer folks. And last weekend fuel was $4.89!!:D

Traverse city

Did traverse city last year with the wife. Great visit. Not a cheap town but we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Also did manistee and golfed at manistee national with my sone. GREAT trip.

So those are good but been there done that. Just find pilot reports from recent stays is the best way to pick stop overs.

Keep the suggestions coming. Great to have a list of target lz's

Flying into Mackinac Island for an evening at the Grand Hotel has always been on my bucket list.

If you are planning a stay at the Grand, you better have reservations and a lot of money:eek: We like to fly to the island and eat at the Grand's caddy shack. Good food and great view. Then stay at one of the B&Bs.

Another good stop is Ludington. Its about a 45 minute walk to the beach but there is a great ice cream stop near the end of the walk.

When my wife came out to check out my project last fall, we stayed at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. The rooms were reasonable, the view amazing, and the food at the top of the hotel was very good.

I will be doing a project on Mackinac Island next year. It is a fun place to go. The fudge wasn't as good as I expected but it is worth the trip. If you have the bucks, the Grand is nice.
