MGL EFIS systems now support two remote control transponders:
Sandia Aerospace STX165R
This is the lowest cost transponder available today.
Garrecht avionics VT0102
Low cost mode-s with extended squitter. Class 1 and 2 available.
Simple installation for both units. The Sandia is controlled via RS232 and may require a COM Extender module for an Odyssey or Voyager EFIS. The iEFIS provides 7 RS232 serial ports as standard.
The Garrecht is interfaced using the CAN bus available with both generations of MGL EFIS systems.
Only a single data link is required in all cases, all additional information needed such as GPS NMEA for the mode-S transponder is provided via the single CAN bus automatically.
Certified GPS position data can be provided to mode-s (and ADSB out) using the NexNav GPS solution or alternatively an external, certified GPS system.
