Howdy Ya?ll. Just curious to see how many folks are out there that never installed main gear leg stiffeners on their RV-9A?s and never had problem with shimmy. I?m at the point of installing or not on a new build and wondering if I should just do it or roll the dice in the hope that its not needed. Thank you.

9A leg stiffeners

I built my 9A without stiffeners and did not need them.

They are not installed on my RV and the landing gear is as true as can be.

I added them 2 yrs later. I think they help to dampen the gear somewhat. Could I have lived without them, yes. If you feel vibration in the mains, check the wheel balance firstly.

Go without for starters, then fix if necessary. Seems to be pretty random who gets shimmy and who doesn't.
