I am rewiring the P-leads to my mags because the original builder of my -4 put magneto filters in the leads and having read in the Sacramento Skyranch Mag manual that this is incompatible w/ Slick Mags. I have read thoroughly the posts on this site about grounding mags and there are two conflicting methods discussed and to an electrical novice like myself I am left confused. The two methods are:
First, ground the P-lead shielding w/ pigtails at the mag and switch and nowhere else (I use toggles)
OR
Second, ground the shielding only at the mag and ground the switch to the airframe.
There are two other methods I can think of:
One is to ground both ends of the shielding as mentioned above plus add another pigtail to ground the switch to the airframe as well.
And the last is to ground the shield only to the switch and ground the mag to the engine ground.
Curious to know what the Brain Trust thinks of my alternative methods as well as the first two.
