Thats what I thought, but...

I called Vans this AM and the man that answered the telephone said it required a forward facing sump. I know some 4 bangers with FI do, but I thought the 10 faced down.

I think some of the confusion as to "facing" direction revolves around the fact that many of the angle valve engines that are available in the new/used market have forward or rear "horizontal" facing induction systems. These angle valve engines will not fit the RV-10. The engine Van is designed around is the parallel valve I(O)-540 and these engines are "vertical draft" i.e. up draft much like all of the carbureted 4 cylinder engines .

The stock C4B5 or D4A5 engine spec'd into the RV-10 are updraft sumps. You can add cold air induction for forward facing horizontal induction.
