Hey gang,
I'm looking for manuals for the ECI 0-360 kit I just purchased and I'm wondering if there are revisions to look for, etc. I contacted ECI, who said they don't currently have manuals, and that I should get the Lycoming manuals. There are a few listed on eBay, but I'm wondering if there are revisions or part numbers to be aware of.

Also, what manuals would you guys recommend I buy? Operator's manual? Overhaul manual? What else? Thanks for your help!

I made the mistake of buying one off of eBay, it was a "reprint", and when I got it, I think it was dated 1962. Made for a good bird cage liner. I bought the "official" overhaul and parts catalog from Lycoming, pricey but in my opinion well worth it, and they give you a couple of years of updates. Hope this helps.
 
Superior Vantage on-line...

Superior Engines has kindly put their Vantage Manuals on-line.... :)

Since their certified Vantage is essentially a Lycoming clone made from PMA parts... the overhaul manual should do... and is much better written and clearer than the 2002 (but originally written in the 50's??) Lycoming one.

I would purchase a Lycoming parts manual though, since then you can reference both ECI and Superior part numbers using the A.E.R.O. web site.

Thanks Gil,
I noticed that they have an Operator's Manual...do you think it would be the same as a Lycoming manual? I don't know if there is any variation in how these engines are designed/built...but I'm guessing if there were differences I would want to use the right manual. :rolleyes:

The only difference I really see in the Operator's portion of the manual is the allowed use of 91 octane auto fuel... with some restrictions that are detailed.

The installation portion of manual is more detailed and well written, and even though it is a certified engine, it gos into definition of items that are usually the realm of the airframe manufacturer - such as motor mount part numbers - try finding that in the Lycoming documentation... :) ... Probably as an aid to home builders.

Unlike ECI, who claims 185+ HP for their experimental O-360s, the Vantage series keeps the charts to a 180 HP max. Perhaps this is to keep the interchangeability for certified aircraft?

As an O-360 user in my Tiger, the checklists would seem to be usable for me... one interesting item that got assigned to the airframe manufacturer was the RPMs for a mag check.... use the "standard" 1800 rpm.... :)

Thanks again, Gil. By the way, noticed that you're in the Tucson area. My fiance is from there and we go down there occasionally to visit her family. If you don't mind visitors, I'd like to check out your RV sometime.

No problem... and if you fly in, we have free tie downs and cheap fuel for guests of residents... Prior Permission Required though....

I guess you'll wait until it cools down though... :D

LOL...cools down AND I have a flying airplane. Give me a year on the last one. My guess is that we'll be driving. :eek:

I've assembled an ECI O-360 kit and put some fairly detailed info out, including what manuals to get, what tools are needed and about a hundred photos of assembly. Radomir was kind enough to post these to make up for my lack of skills there. Link is below. Hope this helps. By the way, I started with an internet copy of a manual and it was not adequate.
