I will be starting to work on my Sam James plenum and cowel soon. If you have pics of the said installation, can you please post them? I am using an O-320. Thanks for any help or guidance in advance.

Hi Axel,

Took my RV-4 Fastback out for its first engine run last Sunday....went GREAT!!! So am now assembling it for the weight and balance prior to inspection. When I get it together (STS) I will take a couple pictures of my finsihed and painted SJ cowl. I opted to NOT use the plenum. I have one on my RV-6 but chose to delete it this time....not worth the hassle...I beleive.

Been enjoying your RV-4 FB pictures. Between you and Bill, makes me glad I did the FB, been getting lots of compliments on it at the airport and I think our -4s look great and slightly different!

Thanks for any pics or help. I will admit. More than a few times I have told myself the complexity of all the mods is too much. I am hoping once I am flying, that turns to I am so glad I did it.

Your bird looks awesome. Hope to see in person some day. As previously mentioned in one post. Maybe a RV-4 Fastback meeting in OSH would be appropriate.

RV-4 Fastback Sam James Cowl Pics

Hi,

Just had my cell phone/camera tonight but got these pics. As you can see my plane is coming together. Did the first engine run last Sunday and no surprises. I have an O-360 and standard Van's constand speed BA Hartzel prop setup with no extension. I am not putting a plenum on this RV but am happy with my baffle set up. Down to the last 90% of this project but think I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe wheel pants and weight and balance next week, DAR the week after????

Pictures of Plenum Installation

I'm not real sure what you want to see, but here are a few pictures of the plenum installation on my O-360 powered RV-4. The plenum is from Sam James, but modified a little bit in the back to accomodate an air take-off that feeds my oil cooler (there are extra fittings shown because I was playing with evening out my CHTs by changing location of the oil cooler take-off point) The cowl uses Sam James rings, but it is just a modified Vans Long Cowl. The prop is a Whirlwind 200RV, but it was built on an extended hub (not a spacer). The plenum is real tight next to my goofy modified cowl, but it may have more room if you use an honest to goodness James Cowling. If you need something else, or have questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
