I was lookingfor the correct wording to use when making entries into the airframe or engine log books. For example I replaced the alternator on my 6 because it failed. I replaced it with a new unit. I made an entry stating "Replaced alternator returned to service." I signed and dated it with the hobbs time. Is this correct? I would just like to know what normal wording should be. Thanks in advance for any help

correct wording

Fazio, the more pertinent info you can write in the logs, the better the interpretation of the logs. For example: Installed new alternator S/N ######,
tested, and returned to service ##/##/##. Then sign.

Hope this helps

Tach time

Was told by A and P that all maintenance records be timed via Tach time, so I am using that format.
Please correct me if I am wrong...

Logbook entries should be based on "total time in service", (TT).
If that differs from tach time, you should include both.
Also in the engine log, you should include time since major overhaul, (SMOH), and/or time since top overhaul (STOH).
