Seems that using halon to extinguish fire and using water to cool the lithium batteries is one of the recommended fire fighting techniques recommended by the FAA. No lithium metal in these batteries (lithium compound), therefore no typical reaction of lithium with water that we experienced in our high school chemistry classes.
