These little triangular gussets live up against the F-706/F-707 bulkheads and sit on the main longerons. Somewhere I saw pictures of somebody's project who drilled what looked like a 5/8" hole in the middle of the gusset and put in a snap bushing for wiring. Looks like this might be a decent place to put a small lightening hole. I can't imagine that this gusset takes much load.
Good idea or not?

A 5/8" wiring hole may be OK but anything bigger would lessen the rigidity IMHO.

I think Vans would have spec'd out a lightening hole there if it was OK. Lots of other ways to save a little weight.
