I looked through the Rotax manual (I might have missed it) I could not find how they recommend lifting the engine. I do have an engine host, however, I could not see an built in lifting points.

The factory approves lifting the engine using flexible straps looped around the intake manifolds. Another way is to loop a flexible strap under the crankshaft/prop hub in the front and behind/under the accessory case in the back (be careful not to tweak any wires back there). Two or three friends work well too! The ROTAX is very easy (a one-man job) to mount on the RV-12.

Lockwood sells a small engine hook that bolts on the engine, simple and it works great

Tow strap

I figured if the gearbox was strong enough to pull an 1300 lb airplane, you could wrap a tow strap around that.

I put a rope loop through the hollow gearbox, then a wooden dowel through the loop. The rope is tied to the engine mount on the rear.
