My right brake master cylinder leaks fluid at the top. The master is installed with the body at the bottom and the shaft extending upward. There are no external springs.

A friend gave me some new o-rings and said all I have to do is remove the snap ring, remove the shaft, replace the o-ring, and reassemble.

Now, in my experience that sounds way too easy!! I have searched the archives and not found anything that specifically deals with replacing these o-rings.

So, can anyone give me some pointers? Such as:

- Can I do this with the master cylinder body still connected to the pedal and the shaft disconnected?

- Does the shaft easily slide out of the body?

- Is there spring in the body exerting any kind of pressure on the shaft?

- Anything in particular that I need to watch out for?

Thanks,

Yes, yes, yes, and yes you need to drain down the brake from res down past the master cyl or you'll get it inside.
