I'm going by memory but I remember mine had a little lip to them from the powder coat. You don't want to remove anything on the close tolerance metal but if you have a small lip, it will make things very hard to remove.
Until I figured that out, I had to press the gear out using an arbor press.
My friend told me about a trick that an old timer taught him involving using STP oil treatment to help slide things together. Put just a little bit of that onto the machined parts and things slide together with ease. You'll note a big difference in friction with that stuff on them.
