11,500' over the top of LAX works fine. So does the Coliseum or Hollywood Park routes at 9,500', or the Coastal Route at 5500'. Or even the SFRA if you want to try that. But really, get flight following, and use one of the above routes, and you'll be in good shape. Nothing tricky about it..
