Is it normal for the fiberglass engine plenum to discolor due to heat from the engine on shut down? It seems to be above the cylinder fins. 0-320 160 HP.

Anything to do to protect it from heat?

Thanks in advance.

Well......

....mine has lots of dark discoloration spots in it and it has never
been run. The only running example I have seen is painted and
still looks like it did when it was first installed.
I think Sam bakes them when he builds them, which would explain the
dis-coloration on mine.

I called James Cowl and they said the discoloration from heat was / is normal.

Might not be a bad idea to paint it with a good high temp paint.

Zippy,

I've done two james plenums now, the first unpainted the second finished out and painted in emron. Unpainted = discolor. Painted = no change.

Hope that helps.

Heat

A few years ago, I asked Sam about the heat buildup. According to him, the Plenum is layed up with epoxy good for 400 deg. F.
