I am considering installing a James plenum and cowl on an IO 540 powered Super Six. Does any one have any experience with this? My main concern is cylinder cooling. Also has any one done any comparison testing for performance with a Van's cowl and Jame's cowl, with the same airframe, prop and engine?

If it would remotely resemble the SJ -10 cowl (also for a -540), I believe the consensus from the -10 drivers (who have had lots of heating problems) would be no. Not sure how it would relate to a super -6 though. -Jim

Yep

Steve, my buddy, Greg Connell has a -10 with a James cowl, 300 HP and three-bladed either Whirlwind or MT prop..forget which, but I outrun him by 7 knots or so, with my Van's cowl, Aerosport 260 horse Lyc, and a Hartzell blended airfoil prop.

If you need to talk to him, PM me and I'll send the contact info.

Best,
