I received a Compaq iPAQ a while back and started to play around with it, but set it aside in order to concentrate on building. Now that I'm flying, I have started to mess with the new toy and am looking for ideas on how to really put it to use for flying. It's too cool not to use.
I wrote a W&B program (excel) which works great.
Don't need maps, since the teo EFIS have all of that.

My question to the forum is...what ideas do you have in order to use it and what kind of programs are out there for aviation that you have used. (Without breaking the bank! Avgas prices are already doing that!)

Looking forward to your ideas!

Well Anywhere Map is the reason that I bought my IPAQ int eh first place, but I'm using it less and less (now that I have a full glass cockpit...) . There's a really cool program that I have lost the link to that gives you engine RPM based on analyzing the sound received through the IPAQ microphone. It is unbelievably accurate!

And then you can always use it to play solitaire while you wait fr the weather to clear....

Paul, I have played around with "rpm from sound" software on a laptop but didn't know it was available for Pocket PC. Some googling found this link:

http://www.tunelab-world.com/rpmsound.html

Since it is free........think I'll try it!

MapTrax

I have MapTrax http://www.maptrax.com/ on my iPaq loaded with WACs, VNCs and VTCs as the Map Coverage for my GRT and Avmap have only Aeronautical Chart Data and in the Aus. Outback there is next to no detail.

You cannot flight plan with MapTrax, so I still use the GRT for Nav. but the iPaq has its' own GPS and displays the WAC beneath the Aircraft and auotloads the most detailed of the charts for the area.

With a 256MB Flash Card I can store all the WACs for Australia and it relieves me of unfolding WACs in the cockpit.

I bought the iPaq and hardware from http://www.craggyaero.com/

Pete.

RPM sound

I just installed RPM sound onto my PDA which uses a windows based operating system. It is sitting here next to me at home, it is quiet here, but the rpm screen indicates a fluctuating RPM between 2000 and 2700 ???

Is it supposed to do that when there is no engine sound?
