Interesting article that suggests reasons for keeping the Rotax oil temperature cooler than what some have suggested as acceptable. Van's should really consider a design change to move the oil cooler forward an inch to create more clearance between the oil cooler and the muffler.

I will be performing the mod as suggested on this forum to move the oil cooler forward an inch after the flying season, mid-winter.

I moved the oil cooler 1" forward during the build. Underneath some graphs of the temperatures I see:

Marty, I have a feeling Van's has quietly taken care of this?

I asked Gus at OSH if this design change was implemented, (quietly). He said there has been no change. He explained the variations between the builds is due to placement of the duct before glassing it in, cowl trimming, etc.
