I just rented a hangar and the hangar owner requires that I have insurance on the aircraft (RV-8A). The aircraft is in dead storage, not flying. AVEMCO wanted 1256.00 a year just to sit in the hangar. Does anyone have any suggestions.

When I took out a builder's risk policy a few years ago, EAA was the cheapest. Unfortunately, they had specific limits on each part of the plane, which didn't line up too well with my project.

Marsh?

Canadian Owners and Pilots Association has liability insurance for bodily injury (excluding passengers) and property damage, $1,000,000 in coverage costs $200 per year. This insurance follows the pilot, not for a specific airplane. Adding a hangar endorsement for $1,000,000 per occurance adds another $175 per year for a total of $375. These are all Canadian dollars (almost free in $US).

Can you find Marsh in the U.S.?

Try Jenny at NationAir. 877-475-5860. I had builders insurance with
them and they had an additional endorsement for the hangar which added
$35/yr to the policy.

$695.00 with Avemco first year, $395.00 second year on... all you need is liabilty $1,000,000.00

Avemco quoted me last year twice the amount of anyone else for full coverage. This year, I sent 2 RFQs and then never responded.

I buy liability only for 1,000,000 and is what the airport authority requires.
I paid $355. My local homeowners broker wrote the contract this time. The liability side is usually about 300 but is almost doubled when written for liability only without the hull coverage.

Ask your local insurance company to write a liability only as I believe you may get a better deal as they waive some charges.

Other brokers/agencies may chime in here.
