After doing a search all I found was discussion of length of spring. I am having trouble getting the spring in the hose. Does anyone have suggestions to make that task easier?

The spring has to be rotated/twisted as it's inserted. It will only work if it is rotated in the direction that reduces the diameter of the spring. I don't remember which way the twist rotates so you have to just try one direction, if it doesn't work, then twist it the opposite direction. Grab it with a locking pliers when you get near the end, to finish twisting/pushing it inside.
