I was wondering if I could get some tips on putting firesleeve on hoses that are already made and installed. I would prefer to not disassemble the hoses, slip on firesleeve, then reassemble. Sounds like a sure-fire way to create a leak to me. In particular, has anyone put firesleeve on -8 oil cooler lines without disassembling them? Pictures?

Thanks! Phil

I've done it. No need to disassemble hoses. With the proper size firesleeve, it will slide over the assembled fittings. EAA has a "how-to" video on their site that might be helpful.

Aircraft Spruce, and probably many other vendors, sell the materials.

For the Aeroquip line, ACS shows sizes and recommended band clamps:

I already had the "economy firesleeve clamp wrench" shown on that page- it's usually sold as a band clamp tool for automotive constant velocity joints. Easy to use, works fine.

Since I didn't want to pay somewhere on the far side of $100 for a can of Stratoflex firesleeve dip, I rubbed red hi-temp silicone into the ends of the firesleeve, as mentioned in EAA's video. I found it takes longer to rub the silicone into the ends than the entire rest of the procedure.
