Hi out there!!

On my -8 QB projekt i want to install a inspection latch in the side
aft Fuse skin between bulkhead F-809 an F-810 below the longeron.

The benefits i will get are:
-easier access for inspections
-easier HS assembly/attaching
-easier (re) torquing HS attachment bolts

My concerns are:
-structural strength

I plan on a latch just big enough to put an arm trough it, approximatly 5 inch in diameter.

has anyone done this??
can those ones please post some pictures?

thanks!!!

RV-8 Access

Daida,
The access holes per the plans and pre-punching are perfectly adequate for installing the horizontal, and same for future inspections. My '8 is 13 years old and have no trouble inspecting the aft end. Unless something bad happens and the tail needs to be removed, you will not need to remove the horizontal. The earlier RV's had a very small access hole. Even though my size 2XL hands were a tight fit I was able to install the tail on an RV-6. I suggest you not modify the aft fuselage and just carry on with the build.
