Just like the OP, I’m also thinking about swapping out an old non-waas GNS 430 for an IFD 440. Does anyone know of any good deals on one? I’m also interested in people’s thoughts on the Avidyne nav/com product, database subscription cost, and ease of installation.

Sounds like a new install? For a slightly lower price a GTN625XI will provide the same capabilities, but an even more budget-friendly option would be a GPS175 if you're looking to add GPS approaches only (in a smaller screen size).
