I wish they'd revise the instructions and have you drill from HS-404 aft. You can't miss the middle of HS-405.
 
Hey guys,

Just for any other new builders who stumble across this step, I figured out that just like you say, Shockwave, it is easier to drill HS-404 from forward to aft (see more of the process on my builder's log page).

Before that, though, I ignored the directions to measure, mark, and trim HS-404 based on plans alone, and instead, clamped it in place (kind of) and then marked where I wanted to trim, leaving as much room as possible. here's the end result. You can see I have plenty of flange there to work with.

The combination of those two "improvements" to the instructions left me a ton of margin while drilling.
