just had to say this after another experience at the field yesterday.

I'm working on my plane, and a guy saunters over from another row of planes. ( pretty much the only way to walk on an airfield, right?)

' Hey. watchadewin?'
Oh, trying to make some headway on my annual inspection....
'so, you're an AME ( A&P)?'
No, it's an amateur-built, so I do all the maintenance.
' so, you're in the owner-maintenance category then?'
Ah, no, E-AB, it's a 'kit-plane' and the builder or owner can do all the work (in Canada).
'oh. so, who signs off on it then????'

sigh.

Different conversation when I see someone working on THEIR plane, with parts laying all over the place....and I'm real sure they're not a 'mechanic'
...I do the 'sauntering'
me -
'Hey, whatchadewin'?'
Oh, just replacing the fuel tanks on this here 170b...dang filler caps are still leakin'................ah, you have a plane around here????

' No, actually I work for Transport Canada - airworthiness inspection branch. That's my King air parked over there.'

end of conversation :)

...just an impersonation!

sorry, part of the gag is the..........
'nah, not really, I own that RV over there!'
however......
a friend used to land his little cub-like ultralite on some frozen mountain lakes, and walk up to the ice fishermen in his big insulated flying suit.
'man, that's the way to get from lake to lake eh?' they'd remark.

' you bet! .....so, can I see your licenses guys????' :)

worst case....that impersonation of a fisheries officer may have ended with his head in an ice-hole! ( surely he got called that a few times anyway! :D
