A hail out to those of you who have mounted one or more antennas just ahead of the main spar (RV-7A, but probably applies to 6 and 9 also). I like the idea of being able to easily access the coax connection to use for my handheld in case of radio failure.

However, the floor does not look deep enough there to be able to "hide" the coax under the carpet (or flooring of choice). And, it seems like it would be vulnerable to being stepped on there. There are a LOT of you doing this, so I'm thinking I'm missing something here. Can you clue me in?

I installed both the com (left) and Transponder connection (right) under the pre-formed carpeted CAD gear leg housing. if required, apon com failure,
should be able to remove the left side gear leg housing and switch out coax for the portable com coax cable.

I routed the coaxial under the tunnel and then inside the bushing up to the gear leg mount. There, the carpet will be already finished.
