Hello folks,

I'm ready to finally finish off my build RV8AQB and need to 'clean' and prepare the existing wash primer to accept my top coat etc. The washprimer is basically in good condition but has aquired a 'film' over the years of storage in an open hanger.

I've prepared and primered all the part's that now need to be attached and really need advice so that I maintain the priming integrity when I join and rivet the parts finally.

Also, the external skin's still have some sort of 'oily' film that they arrived with from Vans. I want to simply clean this without destroying any protection that is provided.

One other question, should platenuts need to be primered also?

Your collective expertise is welcomed.

Dawn dish detergent

I'd recommend using a dilute solution of dawn dish soap to dissolve and remove the oil, then cleaning thoroughly with fresh water. It's mild and won't take the primer off.

Regarding the nutplates, there is no need to prime them. They're plated with black oxide which is a rust preventative coating.

Good luck.
