I just got off the phone with Vans and they were not a lot of help... Is there anyone with a similar setup to mine that can help me select what to add/remove from the FWF kit before ordering? I have the following:

Here is the list for the O-360 which they said is a good starting point since it is Vertical Induction...

Matt-

I just email Van's about this the other week. This is what they told me to DELETE:

1.00 CT RED VMIXTURE 45 7(360)/9(320)
1.00 VA-149-360-PC KIT THRTLE/MIX BRCKT/360

And they told me to add:
CT RED VMIXTURE 47
VA-182-PC KIT
AN833-6D
AN924-6D
AN SPACER 6D

Also, you will need the Airflow performance high pressure fuel pump and filter (it's a kit on their website). Consider not using their gascolator (do some searches on these forums for not needing a gascolator with FI)

Good luck, and I am looking forward to what other people have to input on this FWF package.

Matt,

I got the same list from Gus Funnell at Vans on January 21. Just unpacked stuff over the weekend, so I don't know yet whether I will end up going to the store for more parts, but it seems that most everything is there (except the boost pump, which is ordered separately). You probably don't need the gascolator or doubler.

FWF kit

Matt,
I didn't notice the wiring harness on your list? It came with my kit. I recommend using the raw wiring harness kit vs completed harness. It'll save you 100 bucks or so. It comes with all the same wires, connectors, splices etc just not put together. If you use the deluxe wiring kit you'll end up cutting and splicing anyway.

When I ordered my FWF kit last month they told me they'd dropped the electrical wiring subkit from the kit. Suited me, as I've already wired behind the firewall and the FWF components aren't that much. They did send the master relays. I asked for the drawings, though. I wish I'd had them for the build so that I could have routed things through the bulkheads before skinning the fuselage; it would've been much easier. I also planned to have my fuel pump on the left side, per the 6A plans, but I like the down the center method in the FWF kit ... just wish I'd had that plan set and parts before I installed the center console. By the way, the answers you get seem to vary depending on who answers the phone. My paperwork is at the hangar so I don't remember who I talked to, but we changed out the throttle bracket and deleted the prop and mixture cables - I'll order those when I measure the length. I also didn't order the RV-6A subkit; apparently it wasn't necessary for my planned electrical installation. The guy I talked to seemed very knowledgeable about the XP-IO-360 and mentioned there were a couple w/vertical induction on site; we'll see how accurate he was once I receive my engine and begin the install...

When you said you "asked for the drawings" are you referring to specific drawings for the wiring harness? or the standard FWF drawings? or are they one and the same?

Just a reminder. I you are deviating at all on systems, exhaust throttle quads, and such. It is best to just order what you need from the list, remember vans charges you for deletions. I bought my exhaust straight from veterman and got the mufflers, I bought the throttle quad from wicks, individually bought what I needed from vans on everything else. From what I can figure the total is coming out less than buying the ff as a whole.

I would agree with allbee on the cost. I did a spreadsheet and ordering individual parts looks to be cheaper than the kit. However, the bagged hardware parts (rivets etc.) are not easily priced since there is not a list of what is in each "bag", but certainly those parts don't add up to the several hundred dollar difference. The downside is that you have to figure out what comes in those bags and then get it elsewhere, meaning time and extra shipping. I finally decided that I would just get the kit and pay the extra $ for the convenience.

Go to my website http://home.comcast.net/~n70ge and click on the Firewall Forward link. I detail a lot of the stuff that doesn't work when using the O-360 FF kit on a vertical IO-360 engine.

You'll get some extra hardware that you won't use in some of the bags as well.

I don't know. I got 8.5" x 11" electrical diagrams and rolled plansheets showing the location of actual components and wiring routing throughout the airframe. I'm assuming it's the drawings for the electrical harness as separate from the FWF drawings.
