Sorry this is not strictly RV related, but may also be of benefit to RV builders as well.

The RV-6 (7 and 9 too I would guess) uses Heim LS-3 spherical bearings as the pivot points where the stick assembly attaches to the spar (elevator movement). I'm considering using the same bearings in another aircraft.

My question is about lubrication. The specs for this bearing show a lubrication hole in the race along with a groove. The RV-6 plans don't show any provision for getting lubrication to this hole. Do most people squirt lube in from the side, or has anyone drilled a hole for this?

Hi Luke,

I use greaseless LPS, with the red extender. Stuff a rag underneath the assembly and squirt. You can get to the fittings through the stick boot covers.

Usually inspect and spray during 25 hour oil changes.
