Is anyone aware of a product similar to clear heat shrink tubing, that could be put on after the the ends of a wire are already in place?

I am trying to add a few wire numbers that were originally missed.

Something like clear heat shrink tape? Does that even exist?

Failing that, does anyone have a technique to slit heat shrink open, and then apply it?

I would use self-laminating labels.

Thanks Gil. I was looking for a source. Just need a few to repair some nicked insulation. Don't want to use tape.

Thanks for the replies, but none of these will work for me:

1) Labels : I have them, but I don't trust they will stay on. That is why I want to put the shrink over them.

2) Repair Sleeve : I need clear, to see the label underneath

3) Plasti-dip : Again, I need clear.

I'm not trying to repair a wire, just label it. Normally I do this by applying a label, slide the shrink wrap over it, and heat. The label is there for keeps. Without the shrink wrap, it tends to not stick on the Tefzel jacket.

i used a Rhino label maker with vinyl label. Sticks and doesn't come off easily.

I use a manual 3M ScotchCode write-on wire marker labeler. You can stick your current label to the area on the 3M label where one would normally write on it with a Sharpie. Then it adheres to the wire and the integral clear protective film wraps around the label twice or better for good bond and protection. It is designed for long-term wire marking.

And if you need a quick and dirty label that lasts you can simply write on it as designed. The label rolls come in different sizes and the dispenser is optional, but recommended.

I think the problem with most of these labels are that for a wire that is very thin (18, 20 or 22g) which often is used in aircraft, they will not stick to well. I have used shrink tube with my label maker and it does a great job. If it is not too difficult to remove the end (connector) to put the shrink wrap type, that would be worth it.
